Social Emotional Learning
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) refers to the process through which individuals acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
In essence, SEL encompasses the development of a range of skills essential for success in both school and life. These skills include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. SEL is often integrated into educational curricula and can be taught through explicit instruction, modeling, and experiential learning activities.
Research suggests that incorporating SEL into educational settings can lead to various positive outcomes, including improved academic performance, enhanced social relationships, reduced behavior problems, and increased emotional well-being among students.
